Job Overview:

This position will work directly with the Case Management and Social Services team to provide support services to assist with the timely discharge/transfer of patients from the hospital by providing clerical support. This position will be under the supervision of the Manager of Case




  • Assists case managers and social workers with referrals by compiling and sending referrals for post-acute care services under the direction of the

  • case manager or social worker utilizing the Allscripts referral program.

  • Assists case managers with contacting insurance companies for benefits eligibility and authorizations.

  • Responsible for management and delivery of the second notification for the Medicare IM to patients.

  • Organizes and sends clinical information for all Medicare Discharge Appeals.

  • Arranges and makes sure necessary paperwork is completed for DME with appropriate delivery to patients.

  • Fax Insurance reviews to appropriate providers in a timely manner.

  • Maintain appropriate community resources on internal web page.

  • Prepare required patient correspondence as requested.

  • Arrange conference rooms for patient/family conferences.

  • Enter avoidable days into EPIC

  • Generates daily call list for requested Insurance Reviews.

  • Fax Insurance Reviews to insurance companies.

  • Notifies case managers, clinical payment specialist, and management of Insurance denials

  • Relief of Authorization Specialist (see specific Job Description)

  • Relief of other department office coverage as required.

  • Provides training to new department secretarial staff on both campuses

Required Qualifications :

  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).

  • Ability to learn and navigate Electronic Health Record/EPIC and Allscripts systems.
