Occupational Therapist (OT)


Eureka, California


Monday through Friday 8a-5p


Pay: $40-45/hour

Summary:


Under the supervision of the Center Manager, the Occupational Therapist (OT) provides occupational therapy services to participants according to departmental, professional, and regulatory standards of care.


 


Responsibilities:


1. Occupational Therapist (OT) provides initial assessments and semi-annual reassessment of assigned participants to evaluate functional ability, identify major problems and set realistic occupational therapy treatment goals. Provides reassessment upon request of IDT, or upon change of condition.
2. Conducts reassessments to determine progress achieved and updates goals and develops and implements a therapeutic Plan of Care with ongoing recommendations at least quarterly and when a participant’s condition changes. Presents and coordinates the Plan of Care with Interdisciplinary Team.
3. Implements an appropriate treatment program and monitors treatment progress. Supervises all aspects of participant physical therapy delivered by Personal Care Attendants (PCAs), therapy staff, and vendors as assigned.
4. Demonstrates proficiency in the set-up and application of all treatment modalities, including exercise. Knows indications and contraindications.
5. Analyzes each assigned participant’s needs for equipment, splints and supplies. Fashions splints and assists with the procurement of equipment and supplies as needed.
6. Develops and oversees an occupational therapy maintenance program; trains the therapy staff and Personal Care Attendants to implement the program.
7. Monitors safe practices, is prepared in case of emergency and attends to good body mechanics.
8. Provides education to participants and family members or caregivers as ordered by the Primary Care Provider and according to occupational therapy standards.
9. Participates on the Interdisciplinary Team. Provides education to Interdisciplinary Team members and actively participates in Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
10. Works collaboratively with the Physical Therapist in the implementation of participant treatment and education.




 


Requirements/Qualifications:


1. Bachelor’s Degree in occupational therapy from an institution with a curriculum accredited jointly by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association or other equivalent organization approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
2. At least one-year of experience working with a frail or elderly population required.


3. Licensed by the Occupational Therapy Board of California. If qualified in occupational therapy prior to December 1, 1977, must achieve a satisfactory grade on a proficiency exam conducted, approved or sponsored by the United State Public Health Services. Verification of completion of CPR (BLS) and first aid training.
4. Valid California Driver’s License and personal auto liability insurance required. Must have a personal vehicle in good driving/operating condition, insured for State minimum liability requirements that can be used for the applicable job functions noted above.
5. Current CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire.
