Physical Therapist (Geriatrics)

Hours:  Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm (flexibility)

Location:  Downey, CA

 

The Physical Therapist provides services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or chronic illness as they restore, maintain and promote overall fitness and health. 

 

The Physical Therapist is responsible for evaluating individuals with mobility dysfunction and provide a plan of care that is specific to the individual’s goals related to functional independence.

 


  1. Assess, plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.

  2. Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit and to meets the patient's goals and needs.

  3. Administers manual exercises: instructing, encouraging and assisting patients in performing physical activities, functional activities, gait and daily-living activities and in using assistive and all applicable supportive devices.

  4. Administers physical therapy treatments by utilizing physical agent modalities-moist packs/heating pads, cold packs, TENS, EMS, ultrasound machine and traction; directing treatments given by assistants.

  5. Provide information to the patient about the proposed intervention, its material risks and expected benefits and any reasonable alternatives.

  6. Completes assessments and collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers to establish an integrated individualized plan of care.

  7. Designs home exercise programs, recommending and/or providing assistive equipment, instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs that, if followed, will assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge from therapy.

Required Qualifications :
 

  1. Physical Therapist license issued by the State of California Physical Therapy Board coupled with a minimum of  one (1) year of experience working with the frail elderly (Geriatric) and disabled populations required.

  2. Current CPR/BLS certification also required.

  3. Bilingual English/Spanish/Cantonese/Mandarin preferred, but not required
