Job Title: Referral Specialist
Assignment Type: Temporary (Approximately 3–4 months)
Location: San Ysidro, CA 92173
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Local Travel: Required as needed for staffing coverage and training
Pay Range: $25.03 – $31.64/hr
Bill Rate: $44.94/hr


Job Summary:
The Referral Specialist supports the coordination and processing of medical referrals and authorizations under the Referrals Supervisor. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, securing insurance approvals, and ensuring follow-up with specialty providers. Candidates must have healthcare office experience, be bilingual in English and Spanish, and work well independently and in a team setting.


 


Key Responsibilities:




  • Process and document all referrals and treatment authorization requests accurately and on time




  • Obtain required insurance authorizations via phone, email, or fax




  • Schedule specialty appointments, diagnostic tests, and DME services per provider instructions




  • Follow up with patients and specialists to confirm appointments and collect visit documentation




  • Communicate clearly with patients regarding referral status and scheduling needs




  • Maintain accurate records in the electronic medical record system (EPIC preferred)




  • Support compliance with health plan guidelines and eligibility requirements




  • Assist with staffing needs at alternate locations as required




 


Required Qualifications :

 




  • High School Diploma or GED required (or 3+ years of relevant experience in lieu of education)




  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a healthcare setting, including front/back office or referral processing




  • At least 2 years of customer service experience




  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required




  • Valid California driver’s license and insured vehicle required




  • Medical Assistant or Coding/Data Processing Certificate preferred




  • Typing speed of at least 35 WPM




  • Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance plans




  • Experience with Microsoft Office and electronic health records systems (EPIC preferred)
